Some cars have an urban, young and wild charisma. These are cars in the songs of Bruce Springsteen – the wheels of rebel ‘born to run.’ In Britain we have none of these sorts of cars. Can you imagine Kasabian singing about a Ford Mondeo, or the Kaiser Chiefs yelling about a road trip to Huddersfield in a Vauxhall Corsa? A Used Rolls Royce would only be mentioned in songs being mocked by Oasis or angry northerners. We lack the wild and cutting edge minds to create Chevrolet-like speed cars. Or maybe these cars would just not suit Britain – can you imagine Springsteen singing about lovers tearing up the M5?
